K. Arrieta, Das flüssige Element. Seestücke des 17. und 21. Jahrhunderts aus der SØR Rusche Sammlung Oelde/Berlin, exh. cat., Ahrenshoop 2014, p. 24, reproduced in colour.

Abraham Susenier worked in Dordrecht, where he joined the Guild of Saint Luke in 1646. The tonal quality, limited palette and application of paint in the present, highly atmospheric work clearly reflect the debt that many of Susenier's landscapes owe to Jan van Goyen, one of the most influential landscape painters of the 17th century.
