Condition Report

Kindly note that this painting appears darker in the published photographs. Please contact alexa.armstrong@sothebys.com for further images.

Canvas is lined. Painting presents an elegant sitter with the luminescence of the silver armor and pearl-colored fabrics well preserved, though some details have sunken in the background. A few dots of loss are here and there, like a small spec at center left in the helmet. A thin scratch that is barely visible is by the spike at upper left. Frame abrasions are along the edges and have inpainting. Inspection under UV is difficult to read due to a thick varnish, though at least two spots of repair fluoresce: one in the chest of the sitter at right and the other in the bottom left corner. Very small dots of retouching addressing old loss fluoresce, like a small spot in the gown at bottom center. Offered framed.
