Vanvitelli painted this view in at least four versions, notably the painting of 1711 held in the Accademia di San Luca, Rome,¹ all of which vary in format, staffage and details. There is also a related drawing, though not a preparatory study (since the viewpoint is at a more oblique angle), held in the Palazzo Reale, Caserta.²
