DAVID CORNELISZ. DE HEEM | Still life with flowers, a lemon, a tangerine and other fruit
The Property of a Gentleman
DAVID CORNELISZ. DE HEEM
Antwerp 1663 - before 1714 The Hague
Still life with flowers, a lemon, a tangerine and other fruit
signed: D· DE·HEEM·
oil on canvas
41.1 x 34.7 cm.; 16¼ x 13⅝
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is clear. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a milky and uneven varnish, rendering restoration difficult to read. A small spot of retouching is visible on the lower left margin, to the left of the ledge, as well as possible strengthening in the dark, horizontal shadows of the ledge. The still life appears to remain largely untouched, save for a small area of retouching around the upper edge of the poppy, upper right, and possibly inbetween the rose and the orange. The painting is in overall good condition.
