Description

ANTONIO JOLI

Modena 1700 - 1777 Naples

A capriccio view of a classical portico with Alexander The Great before the tomb of Achilles

oil on canvas

43.2 x 61 cm.; 17 x 24 in.

Condition Report

The canvas has quite an old lining, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. There is some very minor frame abrasion visible along the lower margin, and a pinprick loss at the top of the central column, upper centre, but otherwise no major damages visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very little intervention, save for a handful of small fine dashes of retouching in the sky, centre; and two small spots in the upper right corner and in the vaulting, upper centre. The painting appears otherwise untouched and is in overall very good condition.
