His sale et al., London, Christie's, 6 July 1861, lot 98, for £7–10s. to the Marquess of Bristol;

Frederick, 3rd Marquess of Bristol (1834–1907), and thence by descent at Ickworth, Suffolk, until the mid-1990s;

Private collection, UK

Both Antonio Joli and Giovanni Paolo Panini produced variations on this composition on several occasions. A much larger, autograph version by Joli is in the Paisley Museum and Art Galleries, Renfrewshire.1 A further version by Panini with very similar staffage was sold Christie's, New York, 14 January 1993, lot 77.
