Condition Report

The canvas is lined and the paint surface is clean with a slightly shiny varnish. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals minor, scattered retouching to reduce the appearance of craquelure, notably in the lower left corner. It also reveals retouching to a repaired L-shaped tear in the foreground lower right, approx 9 x 7 cm. In overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

Another version of this painting, of slightly smaller dimensions (82.8 x 104.7 cm.), and signed and dated A·Vermeulen F. 1798, was sold in these Rooms, 27 October 2011, lot 28.
