ITALIAN, CIRCA 1800
AFTER THE ANTIQUE
42 by 51cm., 16½by 20 in.
Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are a few small lacunae, including to the bottom figure's forehead and between the bottom figure's proper left thigh and the upper figure's left calf, and there is pitting to the base. There are a few minor stable casting fissures, including to the upper figure's proper left leg. Some original casting plugs are slightly visible at the upper figure's proper right arm. There are several minor nicks and scratches, particularly at high points such as elbows. There are some areas of minor greening, notably at the back of the neck of the upper figure, at his proper right buttock, and at the base. There is some reddish wax(?) residue to the base below the bottom figure's head. There are a few small specks of white paint, including to the bottom figure's head and to the base. There is minor rubbing to the lacquer patina at the high points.
