FRENCH, LIMOGES, 13TH CENTURY
bronze, with glass eyes, on a modern perspex base
18 by 14cm., 7⅛ by 5½in.
Overall, the condition of the bronze is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The folds of Christ's perizonium would have once held enamel, this is now lost. There are minor traces of gilding, including to Christs hands around the nails in the palms of his hands. There is minor rubbing to the bronze, in particular to the nose and mouth. One of the terminals at the centre of the crown is bent. There is minor tarnishing to the bronze, and there is some very minor greening to the torso. There is some wear around the holes for the nails in the feet and hands, the nails are possibly later. The corpus is mounted on a perspex base.
