PROBABLY SPANISH, 18TH CENTURY
bronze, on a black marble base
bronze: 54cm., 21¼in.
base: 16.5cm., 6½in.
Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are reattachments with some glue residue at the proper right upper arm and the plume of the helmet (the latter also with evidence of past soldering). There are several casting flaws, including minor stable fissures and lacunae, in particular to the cloak, which has a rough appearance at the back. There are traces of gilding, and in areas there are patches of oxidation, notably the proper right leg. There are some minor nicks and scratches.
The base is in good condition with minor general wear and some chips at the edges and corners.
