ITALIAN, ROME, CIRCA 1800
URN CARVED WITH VINES OF PARADISE AND PLAQUES WITH AN IDEAL MAIDEN AND A YOUTH
Cipollino marble, with bronze reliefs, handles and finial
Overall the condition of the urn is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are some restored breaks to the lid, which is detachable. There is natural veining to the marble throughout, including some slightly open but stable veins. A section at the bottom of the urn's body and a section of the base of the socle below are carved separately and joints are visible. There are also joints at the sides of the socle, which could possibly be restored breaks. There are well-concealed, probably original joints running horizontally along the urn's body. There are a few chips to the edges and corners of the base and the edges of the lid. The bronze elements are a greenish colour, probably the original patination which has rubbed at the high points.
