ITALIAN, 18TH CENTURY
AFTER THE ANTIQUE
BUST OF THE VENUS DE' MEDICI
marble, on a marble socle
bust: 59cm., 23¼ in.
socle: 14cm., 5½ in.
Overall the condition of the marble is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The head and shoulders are carved separately and probably associated in history. There is surface dirt throughout, including splashes of paint and label residue at the sternum. There is natural veining to the surface of the marble, in particular to the face. The socle is probably associated and there are various chips to the edges.
