Condition Report

Canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher. A genre scene reads well beneath clear varnish with texture details retained. Craquelure is visible throughout and stable. Under UV inspection, retouching to address frame abrasion is visible on lower and right edges. Scattered retouching is visible throughout the background and is concentrated in the upper half of the composition along craquelure lines and in the shadows of the bottom half, especially the floor at lower right corner. Finely applied retouches in the shadows of costumes are also visible. Another campaign of reotuching may exist under the varnish, which fluoresces unevenly in some areas. Possible old repairs at center left edge and center right edge are slightly visible but difficult to see under varnish. The painting can hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved ebonized wood frame.
