Statement from the Discovery Land Company Foundation

On September 1, 2019, Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm, struck the Abaco Islands and continued through regions of the Bahamas for more than 24 hours causing extensive damage. It is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history and has left thousands of Bahamian citizens without access to essential needs.  

Discovery Land Company Foundation, a charitable organization focused on improving the lives of children, launched its Abaco Relief program to directly assist with the disaster relief needs of all Bahamian citizens.

Donations for Abaco Relief have directly answered the needs of over 1,000 Bahamian citizens. We are currently providing support and developing grants for the people impacted by the hurricane, including essential needs such as water, food, shelter, education and healthcare. The DLC Foundation, through communication with local leaders, residents in need, other charitable organizations and the Government of the Bahamas, has also verified specific organizations to receive funds, including a home for children displaced without known family. We will participate in the ongoing recovery and reconstruction of Bahamian communities.

With the collective participation of Discovery members, friends, and employees, the DLC Foundation has been changing children’s lives for over twelve years. Abaco is one of the Foundation’s treasured communities, and charitable giving there has been strongly supported by members of Baker’s Bay, a DLC development.

Discovery Land Company Foundation (DLCF) creates inspiring opportunities for children and contributes resources to lasting programs and structures for non-profit organizations within the communities near Discovery Land Company properties. Children in shelters, foster care, and those in need of education, medical attention or other helpful services receive the primary support from DLCF. Each donation provides direct positive results for children.

Our mission is to strengthen non-profit and charitable programs that serve children and families, including shelters and foster care facilities, in the communities that surround discovery land company developments.

With the generous support of the consignor, 25% of the hammer price from the sale of ‘The Abaco Blue’ will be donated to fund the efforts of the Discovery Land Company Foundation.
