TWO GOLD AND GEM-SET BROOCHES

One brooch depicting Cupid reeling in a marlin with a fishing rod, the waves set with baroque cultured pearls, accented by four round diamonds, additionally highlighted with two small round sapphires and a round ruby, signed Ruser; the other brooch composed of textured gold and designed as a marlin, the eye detailed with a cabochon ruby, signed M. Buccellati Italy. With box signed Mario Buccellati.

“Shoot for the moon. If you miss, you will land among the stars.” This was the advice most frequently given by Caroline P. Ireland and the guiding principle behind her own vivacious, almost voracious, approach to life. Among her many passions and talents, deep sea fishing was of particular interest to her, and she took part in numerous tournaments, winning the IFWA White Marlin Tournament in the Bahamas. The two brooches offered here are delightful reflections of her enduring love for the sport.
