The Vacheron Constantin reference 4178 was first introduced in 1938 and became an instant icon, so popular that it stayed in production through 1964. Indeed, it is arguably one of the world's most beautiful and appealing chronograph wristwatches. The model is immediately recognizable by its charismatic faceted tear drop lugs and strong square pushers. The present lot is further enhanced by a striking two-tone champagne dial highlighted with crisp and hard raised enamel for the signature and scales.
Two series of reference 4178 were produced bearing either 492 or 434 calibers. To the best of our research, only 280 examples were produced in pink gold, with a 434 caliber. The present lot captures all the unique and pleasing features of this vintage chronograph reference and is well suited for any collector.
