Nicolas Marie Gatteaux (1751-1932) was a French engraver known for his work of commemorative medals. His subjects included important figures and events during his lifetime, including Napoleon Bonaparte and the coronation of Louis XVI. The present lot bears a token made for use during the reign of Marie Antoinette, and is stamped 1774 to commemorate the year Antoinette became Queen of France.
