With full margins, the print is in good condition apart from very faint discoloration at the sheet edges. (An occasional tiny speck of stray ink or pigment in the margins.)

Boldly inking and layering multiple copper plates, Miró created his renowned “Black and Red Series” (Lots 35 – 39), a sequence of dramatic etchings that express his agony over the Spanish Civil War. Horizontal and vertical plates were employed to create disorienting webs that convey the chaos and agony experienced under Franco’s rule. The prints from the series mark the beginning of the artist’s “savage” period and secured his status as one of Spain’s great satirists – alongside Goya and Picasso.
