Description

TACITUS, GAIUS CORNELIUS

Opera [edited by Franciscus Puteolanus and Bernardinus Lanterius]. Venice: Philippus Pincius, for Benedictus Fontana, 22 March 1497

Chancery folio (297 x 197mm.), 114 leaves, a-m8 n10 A8, 45 lines plus headline, roman type, initial spaces, woodcut printer's device on n10 verso and final leaf (otherwise blank), modern half vellum

The second edition of the Puteolanus text of Tacitus's works, previously printed in Milan in around 1487. Puteolanus's editorial mistake of "montem Grampium" (A5r) instead of "Graupium" gave the modern Grampians their name.
