Description

DIOGENES LAERTIUS AND OTHERS

Libro della vita dei filosofi e delle loro elegantissime sentenzie. Seneca, Lucius Annaeus junior: De remediis fortuitorum [extracts in Italian]. Florence: Francesco Bonaccorsi and Antonius Francisci, Venetus, 5 July 1488

4to (203 x 135mm.), 70 leaves, a-h8 i6, 27 lines, roman type, modern limp vellum, some light foxing

Although predominantly attributed to Diogenes Laertius, this particular translation (first printed in Venice in 1480) is based on Walter Burley's work on the lives of the philosophers; it must have proved popular as it was printed a further eight times in the fifteenth century.
