of hexagonal form, the cover carved with a scholar and his attendant travelling towards a pavilion amidst lush vegetation and jagged rocks, all reserved against a diaper ground and undulating lines, the sides carved with alternating scenes of scholars and various floral blooms, the interiors and base lacquered black
Height 13.2 cm, 5 1/5 in.
The box has several small areas of restoration to the elements within the rectangular cartouches on each level, the cover has similar restoration to the pine branches at the top, to the tip of the island middle right and to the rockwork bottom right, overall the box and cover has minor age cracks and re-freshing to the red lacquer. One restored edge to the bottom of the last tier has been separated into several pieces, with some associated flakes and residue visible.
