Original dark brown cloth, covers with multiple gilt rules and elaborate corner- and centerpieces stamped in blind, spine gilt lettered; very slight wear to head and foot of spine. In custom slipcase and folding chemise. First edition, one of 3,110 copies bound in cloth. BAL 7612 — Mosses from an Old Manse. Two volumes. First American edition, second printing, published a week after the London edition. BAL 7621. Carrie P. Original brown cloth, covers with multiple gilt rules and elaborate corner- and centerpieces stamped in blind, spine gilt lettered, brown coated endpapers, contemporary clipping of Longfellow's “Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Funeral” pasted to front free endpaper, following leaf with printed Hawthorne appreciation pasted in; spine just sunned. BAL 7626. Sir William Pepperell (bookplate to front pastedown)
