Bartolomeo Ligozzi was the nephew of the mannerist artist Jacopo Ligozzi. Born in Verona, Ligozzi flourished as a still life painter in Florence, where he gained the favor of the Medici family. Certain elements in this painting, like the flowers' arrangement and the glass's luminescence, are repeated in Fiori in un vaso di vetro in the Museo della natura morta, Poggio a Caiano.1

When this painting sold in 2016 (see Provenance), Ilaria della Monica endorsed the attribution to Bartolomeo Ligozzi. We are grateful for her assistance with the cataloguing of this lot.
