We would like to thank Noé Willer for kindly confirming the authenticity of this work, which will be included in his forthcoming Victor Gabriel Gilbert catalogue raisonné.
Watercolor and gouache on board. There are artist margins on all four sides of the composition not visible in current framing: upper and lower margins are approximately 1 1/2 inches wide and the left and right margins are approximately 3 1/2 inches wide. Artist pinholes in the corners. The board is taped to a front mat along all four edges. The work presents well and maintains fresh, bright colors. There is extremely faint surface debris in the sky, possibly inherent to the artist. A spot of foxing at the right upper edge. Very faint abrasion along the upper edge. A very few tiny, barely visible pin dot losses on the skirts of the two women at lower right and in trees and architecture at upper left. There is a crease with associated loss to the extrme upper right corner of the board, only visible from verso when unframed. There are remnants of glue and some scattered foxing in the margins of the board not visible in current framing. Scattered foxing verso. Ready to hang in its current state.
