We would like to thank Manuel Schmit for kindly confirming the authenticity of this lot, which will be included in the forthcoming First Supplement to the Catalogue Raisonné of the Painted Work of Stanislas Lépine (1835-1892) now in preparation.
Original unlined condition. The surface presents well. Scattered, widely patterned craquelure in the sky, with a few isolated pin dots of accretion. Frame abrasion visible along left edge. Under UV: broad fluorescence in the sky, possibly inherent to the work. A few scattered finely applied dots and dashes of retouching in the sky with inpainting to address prior frame abrasion visible at the upper left edge and left lower edge. A few pin dots of retouching near the lower right corner. Ready to hang in its current state.
