A SECRET LETTER
signed J.G. Vibert. (lower right)
oil on panel
21¾ by 17⅜ in.
55.2 by 44.1 cm
Oil on cradled panel. The work presents well overall, aside from surface dirt and dust; frame abrasion along the upper edge; and a vertical repaired crack in the panel that extends from the lower edge towards the area between the cardinal's robes and the base of the statue. Under UV: There is brushy retouching to the aforementioned crack and surrounding areas. Additional finely applied retouches scattered throughout. This work would benefit from a clean and retouching.
