Property from the Collection of Mr. Stan Battat
1821 - 1874
A LADY SEATED ADMIRING A VASE
signed J.L. HAMON (lower left)
oil on canvas
19½ by 16⅛ in.
49.5 by 41 cm
Lined with an old, sympathetic lining. Surface dirt and dust with a few pin dots of accretion and isolated dots of loss. Faint, widely patterned craquelure. The edge of the painted composition is visible along the right edge in current framing. Frame abrasion along left edge. Under UV: heavy old varnish fluoresces green unevenly, which somewhat impedes a review of the surface. However, older retouching above the woman's proper left shoulder and isolated small retouches and some broad fluorescence are visible in the background, with broad fluorescence along the upper edge. Ready to hang in its current state.
