The Danish painter Janus La Cour was drawn to the Swiss Alps for their majesty and tranquility, and he particularly liked to study the contrast between the lower valleys with their warmer temperatures and palettes and the cooler hues of the snow-capped peaks beyond. The present lot features Engstlenalp, a high alp in the Bernese Highlands known for its beautiful lake views.
