Catalogue Note

Executed in 1969 shortly before the birth of Moscow Conceptualism of which Kabakov was the leading exponent, this abstract drawing borrows motifs from the Suprematists of the first avant-garde but arranged in a way that resembles a room plan, prefiguring the artist's domestic interior scenes and later large-scale installations.
