8vo, FIRST EDITION, advertisements at the beginning and end, Standard Life Insurance advertisement slip tipped-in at the beginning, original light greenish grey pictorial wrappers, upper cover depicting deodars (East Indian cedar trees), rickshaw carrying female passenger etc on diamond-shaped canvas, lower wrapper depicting woman with fan, preserved in black cloth chemise and quarter black morocco slipcase, crack along upper joint of backstrip, some minor foxing BUT STILL A NEAR FINE COPY


A lovely copy of this fragile early work collecting for the first time six stories previously published in The Week's News in 1888. This is no.4 of the Indian Railway Library, a series of the author's books which were meant to be "illustrative of the four main features of Anglo-Indian life. viz: THE MILITARY, DOMESTIC, NATIVE & SOCIAL" (publisher's advertisements).
