8vo, FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, title-page within red rule, 2pp. of publisher's advertisements at end, original red cloth lettered and design stamped in gilt, top edge gilt, DUST-JACKET, minimal light spotting, dust-jacket with very small tears at edge


The English edition was published on 12 October 1899 and therefore a few weeks after the American (first) edition. The English edition, however, was the first time one of Kipling's books appeared in Macmillan's uniform format with the ganesha device on the upper cover.

A near fine copy with a rare near fine dust-jacket.
