"CYPRIOTE" VASE

circa 1898-1900

favrile glass

engraved L.C.T. K1456

8⅞ in. (22.5 cm) high

Overall in very good condition. The exterior of the vase is brilliantly iridized, imparting the feather decoration with strong luminous color in a range of jewel-tone hues. The glass surfaces with some scattered extremely minute and fine surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. As expected with the Cypriote technique the exterior surface displays a number of surface irregularities and open air bubbles inherent in the making. The underside of the vase with a few small areas of adhesive residue. The interior of the vase displays a strong cobalt blue coloration, which is visible through the textured pockmarks on the exterior creating dynamic contrast and visual interest. An extremely handsome and refined example of the Cypriote technique.
