designed circa 1962
gold leaf on carved mahogany
signed Pedro Friedeberg
37⅛ x 20¾ x 22½ in. (94.2 x 52.7 x 57.1 cm)
Overall in very good condition. This iconic piece by Friedeberg presents with a rich and bright gilded surface in original condition. The proper left side, index and thumb with minor loss to the gilded surface revealing a dark red under paint. The seating area and inner side of the fingers with occasional crackling to the gold leaf surface consistent with age and gentle use over time. The area where the hand meets the base with thin loss to the gilded surface measuring approximately 7 inches and not detrimental to the functionality of the piece. A highly functional piece and a superbly conserved example of the designer's iconic model.
