Property from a New York Collection
comprising two "Boule" vases, a "Bouteille" and two stackable vases
each signed JOUVE and with the artist's cypher
largest: 9⅛ in. (23.3 cm) high
Very good condition overall. The four pieces in original condition retain their original bright surface and present a rich bright surface when seen in person. All four pieces present with minor glaze crackling consistent with age and natural evolution of the medium over time. The glazed surfaces with very minor and occasional pinholes consistent with age and not visually distracting. The glaze with very minute darker spots to the glaze which seem to be inherent to the production. The Bouteille's lip presents with some loss to the glaze and light damage to the clay body in an area measuring approximately 1/4 x 1/2 in. The neck appears to have been sensitively restored at some point and displays two thin cracks and minor areas of glaze loss. This lot has been examined under UV light and does not show any evidence of prior restoration. A diverse and visually striking set by the mid-century French ceramist.
