Property from the Collection of Mr. Seymour Stein
LUDWIG VON HOFMANN
1861 - 1945
signed with the artist's monogram (upper left)
oil on canvas
25¾ x 31 in.; 65.4 x 78.7 cm
Original unlined condition. The work presents well and the colors remain vibrant. There are a very few minuscule pin dot losses in the lower half of the composition, with some possible associated abrasion at lower right. Under UV: there are a few sparsely applied pin dots and dashes of inpainting on and around the figures, including a small vertical area of inpainting on the proper left thigh of the far right figure and a cluster of pin dots of inpainting in the background to the left of the middle figure's neck. There are a few isolated pin dots of repair in the foreground. Brushy inpainting to address prior frame abrasion is visible in the upper left corner and along the right edge.
