surah an-Naml (XXVII) v.56 to surah al-‘Ankabut (XXIX) v.45

Arabic manuscript on paper, 18 leaves, 9 lines to the page, written in naskh in black ink, verses separated by gold and polychrome rosettes, 2 surah headings in white rounded cursive within gold against a red ground within cartouches, gold and polychrome verse markes in the margins, fifth and tenth verse marked in gold in the margins, f.1a with a gold and polychrome heading (‘unwan), in brown stamped and gilt binding decorated with a central

rosette, the doublures with traces of interlacing designs


31.5 by 21.5cm.

The inscription on f.1a states that the Qur’an was endowed by Sultan al-Malik al-Nasir Faraj b. Barquq Sayf al-Din, Nasir al-Din (reigned for two short periods: 1399-1405 AD and 1405-07 AD). Further ajza' from the same Qur’an were sold in these rooms, 20 April 2016, lot 13 and 9 April 2014, lot 20.
