Khosrow wa Shirin: Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 75 leaves, plus 11 fly-leaves, 12 lines to the page, written in nasta’liq in black ink, text divided into two columns, ruled in light blue, red, green and gold, headings in white nasta’liq against a gold ground within polychrome cartouche, f.1b and f.2a with a polychrome and gold frame, three paintings; Timurnama: Persian manuscript on paper, 14 lines to the page written in nasta’liq in black ink, text divided into two columns, ruled in green, orange, gold and blue, headings in gold nasta’liq, f.76b with a polychrome and gold heading (‘unwan), nine paintings, incomplete, in a later European binding

Condition Report

In overall good condition, the margins have been cropped and the volume rebound several times, the current binding being European, the margins are clean, minor worm holes throughout and minor stains, the incipit bilofium with losses to the illumination and minor tears, several later ownership inscriptions and stamps mainly on the fly-leaves, the paintings in fair conditions, many affected by rubbing, stains, oxidation, flaking and losses, we would advise to contact the department to obtain a photo of each painting to assess the condition, the binding in good condition, with minor scratches, as viewed.

The manuscript contains twelve paintings, the first three are of the Khurasan school and attributed to circa 1570; the others from the Timurnama are dated a decade later and attributable to Qazwin. They depict the following scenes:
