Property from a New England Estate

AN EGYPTIAN WOOD LID OF A GERMINATING OSIRIS BED, 18TH DYNASTY, PROBABLY PERIOD OF HOREMHAB, 1319-1292 B.C.


in the form of mummiform Osiris, facing right and wearing a broad beaded collar with long crossed bands in front, braided beard, tripartite wig with faint traces of striped detail, and fragmentary crown in the form of the per-nu, the shrine of Lower Egypt associated with Osiris, the face of Osiris with eyebrows and cosmetic lines painted in traces of black.

Height 65.4 cm.

This lot should not have a W symbol in the printed catalogue. This lot will not be transferred to Sotheby's Greenford Park after the sale, but will be available for collection from New Bond Street.
