A ROMAN MARBLE SEASON SARCOPHAGUS RELIEF FRAGMENT, 3RD CENTURY A.D.


from the left corner of a sarcophagus, carved in front in high relief with the figure of an erote personifying a season, holding a basket of fruit or flowers in his raised right hand and the folds of his billowing mantle in his left hand, a broad crimped ribbon slung from his right shoulder to his left hip, and decorated in shallow relief on the side with the forequarters of a griffin; no restorations.
