Condition Report

Condition:

This work is in good condition. There is oil paint on corrugated cardboard, attached and hanging onto a wooden stretcher lined with canvas as a secondary vertical support. The cardboard is tied to the secondary support with cords through 26 original eyelets, located around the edges. The display follows the same used in other exhibitions of his artworks and the artist’s preferences. The cardboard support has undulations that are consistent with the artist’s technique. On top of this the paint layers were applied with fine brushstrokes, with Egyptian cotton fabric pieces of collage, using natural pigments. There is an overall waving pattern of the surface due to the original cardboard support. There is evidence of a couple of repairs in the cardboard, bottom right and bottom left, around 1.5 cm, although they are barely visible and have been restored professionally. The paint layers are also stable with no losses, craquelure or flaking. There are some small marks in the paint layer, consistent with the artist technique. No past retouching or any other intervention can be seen.

Colour:

The catalogue illustration is accurate; although the brown/red tends more towards a brick -red tonality in the original work.
