Please note, Condition 11 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers (Online Only) is not applicable to this lot.
The canvas is wax lined and is securely attached to a relatively new, expansion bolt stretcher.
The canvas is somewhat lifting in areas along the upper edge. Hairline craquelure is visible throughout the composition.
The wax lining appears to have affected the appearance of pigments in some areas of the composition which might have subsequently been addressed with restoration. However, these are not visible when inspected under ultra-violet light.
This work is ready to hang.
Presented in a simple gilt frame.

Purchased by the present owner in Rhode Island, USA in 1985
Painted in the early 1930s.
In the 1930s Vaszary summered in Italy, travelling between the Adriatic coast and the resorts of the Riviera. He painted and sketched wherever he could, recording bathers, sailing boats, and the increasing number of holidaymakers on the Italian beaches of Rapallo, Venice, or Portorož (lot 18), a seaside resort in modern-day Slovenia.
