LE QUAI DES ESCLAVONS ET LE PONT DE LA PAILLE

signed Ziem (lower left)

oil on canvas

21¼ by 33½ in.

54 by 85 cm

The Association Félix Ziem, represented by Mathias Ary Jan, David Pluskwa and Gérard Fabre, has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Lined. The surface presents well and appears bright. There is a thin vertical repair approximately two inches long that is faintly visible to the naked eye (and fluoresces under UV) in the sky at upper center. Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly. There is a small brushy area of retouching to the left of the distant spire; old dashes of retouching in the sky above the two columns and on the façade of the Doge's Palace; and a very few isolated finely applied dots of retouching in the sky and at lower right. Brushy inpainting to address prior frame abrasion is visible at the left, upper and right edges.
