Overall the condition of the alabaster is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor natural veining to the alabaster throughout. There are a few small natural inclusions with white fill, including in the hair at the back. There are a few slight scratches, including to the abdomen and the proper left elbow.

Active in Florence, Dante Zoi was famous for his decorative alabaster sculpture. This Nymph dressed in diaphanous drapery and presenting a star relates to the sculptor's Allegoria della notte, illustrated in A. Panzetta, Nuovo Dizionario degli Scultori Italiani dell'Ottocento e del Primo Novecento, Turin, 2003, p. 1002, figs. 1998 and 1999
