TWO PAIRS OF DUTCH DELFT POLYCHROME PANCAKE PLATES | 18TH CENTURY


One pair painted with a bird in flight and another perched in a branch, above a blue animal and Chinese pagoda, within concentric blue circles, the rim border with four cartouches and half-flowerheads; the other pair of small size, painted with a large flowering prunus branch with a bird perching at the top flanked by two butterflies, with a leaf border at the rim.

The larger pair, one plate with two rim chips, the other with several rim chips, and typical glaze loss to both rims; the smaller pair, one with four rim chips, the other with three areas of glaze loss to the reverse which have been painted over, some nibble chips to the rims of both.
