Anatomy of a Murder (1959) poster, US
Artist: Saul Bass (1920-1996)
Unframed Dimensions: 40 x 30 in. (102 x 76 cm)
This film was directed by Otto Preminger, and stars James Stewart. It was one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to address sex and rape in graphic terms. It includes one of Saul Bass's most celebrated title sequences, an innovative musical score by Duke Ellington (who plays a character called Pie-Eye in the film), and is one of the finest pure trial films ever made.
Saul Bass designed the entire US poster campaign for this film. Owing to the fact that it was printed on heavier paper stock it was extremely difficult to store, and therefore very few have survived.
An exceptionally rare Saul Bass poster, with only a couple of copies surfacing in over twenty-five years.
