Gladstone, to Olga Novikoff, refusing to discuss an article she has sent (“...I have nothing to do with Imperial negotiations: peace, and then liberty, are my watchwords...”), 3 pages, headed stationery of Hawarden Castle, Chester, 5 December 1885; C.G. Duffy, to Mr Hughes, in the third person, inviting him to the Commons, 2 pages, "Monday morning"; Squire Bancroft, theatre manager, to Mr Clayton, 2 pages, n.d.; Sir Edward Grey, sending a photograph, 3 October 1927, with envelope; Heinrich Wölfflin, historian, in German, 1 page, 4to, 2 November 1930; General H.J.E. Gouraud, in French, 4 pages, 4 August 1925; General Wilhelm Groener, in German, 1 page, folio, 20 July 1927; Sándor Petőfi, Hungarian poet, making an appointment, in Hungarian, 1 page, n.d.; all 8vo except where otherwise stated


Olga Novikoff was a Russian journalist and vociferous proponent of pan-Slavism, so had supported Gladstone over the Bulgarian question in the 1870s.
