The elegantly sloped marquise-cut dates back to the 18th century when, as legend has it, King Louis XIV commissioned a diamond that resembled the lips of his lover, the Marquise de Pompadour. It is a less conventional choice for engagement rings, chosen by style mavericks including Victoria Beckham and Catherine Zeta-Jones. This particular diamond is distinguished by a high color grade and remarkable symmetry.
The finished ring pictured here was selected from Sotheby’s archives to provide inspiration for designing your own bespoke jewel using the loose stone offered in this lot. Please note that this is just an example of the many design possibilities and is not available for purchase.
Accompanied by GIA report no. 2117171627 dated June 7, 2010 stating that the diamond is G color, SI1 clarity.
