James Webster (1802-1828) traveled extensively in the Levant with the architect W. H. Newnham in 1825-28, dying of a fever in Cairo. Includes Webster's account of Constantinople when news of the Battle of Navarino reached the city. A memoir of the author precedes the text of this posthumously published work. An appendix contains details of the death of the emperor Alexander and of the Russian Conspiracy of 1825.
