A 1982 announcement card for an early exhibition of Keith Haring’s work at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, October 9th to November 13th, 1982.
Forever linked to Keith Haring, LA2 (Angel Ortiz) was discovered by Haring at age 13. The two began an extensive period of collaboration, with LA2 joining Haring in creating and exhibiting work at the Shafrazi Gallery, as well as galleries in London, Tokyo and Milan. (Courtesy of Doyle)
Photographer and conceptual artist Tseng Kwong Chi was born in Hong Kong, educated in Canada and Paris, and settled in New York where he befriended artists in the vibrant downtown arts scene of the late 1970's and 80's. He most notably documented key luminaries from the period, including, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, photographing these artists in intimate and revealing portraits. His best-known work, “East Meets West,” is a series of self-portraits taken throughout various iconic sites around the world.
