Description

Japanese Meiji era (明治時代) 950 silver and lacquer jewelry box.

  • Rectilinear with straight sides and loose-mounted trefoil handle with stud mounts on top.
  • Sides and top have engraved chrysanthemums, irises and blossoming prunus branches.
  • Two hinged doors with ornamental strap hinges and scrolled and hinged finial.
  • Interior has three black lacquered graduated drawers with silver-gilt pulls and red velvet lining.
  • Lacquered black are door interiors and box underside.
  • Corner bracket supports.
  • Marked “Sterling 950.”
