Description

European Art Nouveau repoussé sterling silver vase with Teutonic nymph.

  • Imported to England in 1903 by Marples & Co. (part of Martin, Hall & Co.).
  • Quadrilateral with upward tapering sides and bellied bowl.
  • Raised and open foot with corner supports.
  • Irregular and twisted fluting with applied ornament of loose and fluid flower heads and Teutonic nymph head with flowing tresses.
  • Light gilt wash.
  • Made by an unidentified European maker.
  • Fully marked, including import marks and London assay stamp.
